Azerbaijan Republic

Officially the Republic of Azerbaijan is situated at the eastern side of the South Caucasus, on the shores of the Caspian sea in Asia. Azerbaijan where is called The Land of Fire bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west and Iran to the south, Turkey to the north west. The national language of the country is Azerbaijani. Country is an overwhelmingly Muslim country. The population of Azerbaijan exceeds 9.92 million and the territory covers an area of 86,6 square kilometers. According to both of these figures, Azerbaijan is considered the largest country of the Transcaucasia.

 

Baku

Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan is the largest commercial, cultural and scientific center with its antiquity, territory and population in the Caucasus region, and the largest port on the Caspian Sea. The old city Baku is well-known for its Boulevard, Fountain Square, the State Flag Square, the newly constructed Flame Towers, Crystal Hall where the Eurovision song contest was held, modern cultural center – Heydar Aliyev which is one of the world’s 5 best architectures, architectural buildings as mosques, sandy shores and beaches. The Maiden Tower is the most magnificent and mysterious architectural monument of Baku.

 

Icheri Sheher

The Old City which is ancient settlement of Baku as Historical-Architectural Preserve is not only cultural heritage of Azerbaijan people, it is also the city and district of residence, as well as historical and architectural complex. The Maiden Tower is the most magnificent and mysterious architectural monument of Baku which also includes Old City Icheri Sheher.

 

Absheron

The Absheron peninsula where is surrounded by the water of Caspian Sea is especially famous for its sandy beaches and numerous suburban settlements as well as the developed infrastructure of its hotels, water parks, cafes and restaurants. Several ancient oil wells of the world are located in the Absheron Peninsula. Azerbaijan is in the first place for the variety of mud volcanoes in Absheron. The Absheron Peninsula has also a number of historical pearls like the Ateshgah fire temple, the Nardaran Castle, the Round Castle and Quadrangular Castle in Mardakan settlement, the castle in Ramana and others.

 

Gobustan

The Gobustan Rock Art Cultural Landscape covers three areas of a plateau of rocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert of central Azerbaijan, with an outstanding collection of more than 6,000 rock engravings bearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art in Absheron region.

 

Sheki-Zagatala

Economic-geographical region of Sheki-Zagatala includes the administrative regions of Balakan, Qakh, Zaqatala, Oghuz and Qabala. This region is located in the north-west of Azerbaijan Republic, on the southern slopes of the Major Caucasus and in the Qanikh-Ayrichay valley. Due to the picturesque nature, the Sheki-Zaqatala economic-geographical region is one of the important resorts and tourist regions of the country. Gabala, Sheki, Zagatala are considered a popular tourist destination due to the combination of a very good spring climate, mountainous landscape, and diverse fauna. There are many world class hotels and resorts, most part of the Qafqaz chain.

 

Lankaran

Lankaran is a very beautiful part of Azerbaijan where lies in the South-East of the country and is one of the oldest settlements in Azerbaijan, has recorded rise in number of foreign and local tourists coming to see the beauties of this region.

 

Guba-Khachmaz

Guba-Khachmaz is located in the northeast of Azerbaijan, to the north of Baku. It is the closest mountainous area to Baku of all other mountainous areas of Azerbaijan, a two hour drive on a modern highway. A trip to this region will give you the opportunity to visit the famous Chirag-Gala fortress and Khinalig settlement.

 

Nakhchivan

Nakhchivan is located at the south west of the ancient Azerbaijan where includes 7 village region Babak, Sherur, Sadarak, Culfa, Ordubad, Kangarli and Şahbuz is one of the place of civilization and cultural centers in the world. The splendid 12th-century Momine Khatun mausoleum, which is the city’s icon, is perhaps the finest single antique monument in Azerbaijan. The extraordinary view of the Alinjagala fortress, Yusif ibn Kuseyir, Gulustan tombs attracts many foreign visitors.
